The Art of Ornament and Emotion
Victor Cadène is a multifaceted artist and decorator who creates decorative two-dimensional scenes from his drawings, which he cuts and assembles into intricate collages. More than precision, he seeks spontaneity in composition and the emotion of color, both central to his practice. His works are opulent and theatrical, oscillating gracefully between exuberance and harmony.
A profusion of details animates his compositions, reflecting his deep fascination with the decorative arts in their broadest sense. His influences range from Baroque painting and Rococo style to the Nabis, Matisse, and the creations of Paul Poiret’s Atelier Martine.
Working entirely by hand in his Paris studio in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Cadène collaborates with emblematic French houses such as Artcurial, Orient Express, and Diptyque. He has also been invited by leading craft manufacturers to design rugs for Pinton and fans for Duvelleroy, each project extending his exploration of ornament, gesture, and color.
